Alright, sit tight while I take you on a ride on the current state of teh Internet:
http://www.avivadirectory.com/blogger-law/
Take a moment to read #3.
Basically what this means is that even though images embeded in posts aren't hosted on SuperHiro.org, the fact that they are being embedded here *could* potentially put the site in trouble.
This leads me to a change I need to make to the board which isn't going to be popular but I don't think will detract too much from the experience of the site. I have modified the board so that images aren't embedded inline on superhiro.org, but instead are linked to the images themselves directly. This means instead of seeing the images embedded in posts, you will see this:
The one bad thing about this is for the small group of people using images in your signatures won't be able to use them anymore.
Personally I think this is stupid and silly. If it isn't being hosted on my server, then I shouldn't be liable for it. The very nature of the internet is to hyperlink! I can and do control what is hosted on this server, but cannot control what people link to. For whatever reason, the lawyers don't seem to agree.
In order to protect the board, I need to make this change. I don't like it any more than you do, but with the current "lawsuit happy" climate we live in I need to keep the site in line with the rules and laws of teh internet.
Thanks for your support.

An unfortunate, but necessary, change. It's happened across many other forums, and while I agree that as long as the images aren't hosted here it shouldn't be a problem, I can see how it is.
Here's hoping this is as close to censorship as we come. |

| For those of you who do have rights for images in your signatures, I am finding a way to have them show up normally for you again. |

After implementing it, I really didn't care too much for the "click here" image, I imagine some of you didn't either. I originally wanted to find a modification that would generate a thumbnail of an embedded image instead as this is considered "transformative" and falls under the area of Fair Use. I couldn't find one at first but guess what - after extensive looking and programming I was able to do just that.
Embedded images will now show up as thumbnails, which constitutes Fair User under the DMCA. Thanks for your patience and support while I worked to get this all sorted out. |

I click and I click
I stop, eat some liver.
And then I feel sick
The image, no bigger
Translation: Doesn't work for me Any clues?
[Edit] Also, I don't like liver. |

Thanks AcidTwister for sorting that out. To anyone else who has trouble with the thumbnails...right click the image and select "View Image" (or whatever equivalent pops up in your browser)
Who cares if it seems like a bit of a U-Turn (j/k)....I LIKE the thumbnails. It also gets around the problem of large images messing up the page layout, which can't be a bad thing.
Does anyone think that an image posting guideline which explicitly requires a link to the original of a posted image IN CONTEXT would be a good idea?
As with all slippy-contributed suggestions...feel free to adopt or ignore at your leisure
[Edit] Except for eating liver. I wouldn't suggest that to anyone. Don't do it, kids. |

| If you're using an Adblocker that restricts JavaScript, it might prevent the URL on the image from working properly. |

Meh, I've got ad blockers up the wazoo. Popups mostly blocked. Authorised popups given permission to open in a new tab, rather than a popup window. I've given Superhiro.org a green tick on the ad blocker and the firewall.
Aside from all that, I'm really not fussed about having to right-click to view the full image. Tis a triviality. |

| Huh, works in IE6 and Firefox but not in IE7. I'll have a look at what's up. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! |

Spanner in the works - I'm using firefox.
It's probably something to do with one of the many addons I've got bloating my browser. |
