This is just a totally casual observation, but does the cast with the super powers seem a little male heavy to you?
Including Nikki's son we have 7 males with special powers versus 2 females.
I think it might have some thing to do with the possibility that thier demographics are to reach young men. So as a result they give them characters they can identify with.
I mean most guys do not identify with Claire and Nikki. They want to do SOMETHING with them, but identifing is not the thing. haha!
Just thought it was an interesting point. What do you guys/gals think about that? |

| I guess I never really thought about it. There may be other heroes popping up soon though, and we don't know their gender yet.... |

Ah come on! There's already Jolie and Alba, and other female heros. For this show, I like that that there are a lot of eye candies for us Gal! Would you really want to sit and watch a bunch of girls? Personaly, I really like the nathan pajama scene He's so hot and wicked! |

You're right! But the girls scenes and powers sort of overpower the male's scenes sometimes don't you think
It's not so heavily one-sexed though that you notice right away until someone points it out! |

| Good point though on the demographics. For the most part, their target audience has got to be youngish males with a penchant for comics and scifi. I mean, if it wasn't, they would have a geeky girl in there too, not just hot chicks. |

I would like to clear up that I am not intending to sound feministic or bashing the show in any way. Like the title said it was just a casual observation.
But the fact stands true, like it or not.
And yes we might yet see some more women in power ( pun intended) so perhaps those odds will change.
Also I had the thought that the neighbor lady might be harboring a skill or two, so that would put us at 7 to 3.
Hehehe..
It has been my experience for years by reading comics and watching scifi that the demographics can entirely control storylines and character development. I hope it dosen't effect this show a lot, in fact I have faith that it wont. But I am not an executive bent on getting numbers either, so what do I know.
Another possible factor, pointed out by the husband here, is that the seemingly lack of female characters is due to the violence factor. Violence against women and violence against men are percieved by society as different. If a man hauls off and hits another man, its a fight. If a man hauls off and hits a chick, its abuse. Women can get into scraps but that is seen as sexy by some people. (YOU know who you are!) So keep the numbers male heavy and the violence is easier to script. Bada boom, bada bing!
For the record I know a few women that watch the show that WOULD like to see more chicks. |

the ones so far with superpowers, yes.
but usually on tv, its a little underbalanced.
target audience, a little more.
and remember there lots of other female non-major characters that get a decent amount on screen.
i think if it was 4/6 instead of 3/7 it wouldnt be even commentable. so its a 1 char diff. *twirls finger* |

| i think their superspowers make up for the lack of females in the show...healing factor and super strength (possibly) vs flight, time, future telling..etc. the females powers are way more physical than the males. usually, its the other way around. i mean DL having kitty pride's powers. thats a switch. i guess my point is that yes..there are less females in the show...but they have "male"-type (gernerally) superpowers. (which i think is pretty cool). but for the record...i would love to see more females in the show. |

They haven't shown her in so long, I for got about Mohinder's neighbor. I think she's a superhero in her own right. She has inner strenght! You rarely see girls with that sort of strength and boldness and smarts. I like her.
As for that stupid black girl whatever her name is. I hate girls who act like minmay. "Oh no! You can't go to war. I don't care if you are the diffrence between freedom adn world domination or human anialation from the aliens. I don't want you to get hurt. Just stay home where it's safe." Damb, those anti violence women piss me off but i'll not get started.... |

I have to say I really dislike the Simone character as well.
Remember the show isn't about superpowers, it is about the characters and their interaction with others and the superpowers are a plot device...
That said, we also have
Females: Niki, Claire, FBI Chick, Matt's Wife, Simone, Eden. (6)
Males: Hiro, Ando, Peter, Nathan, DL, Mohinder, Isaac, HRG, Voodoo, Micah. (10)
6 vs. 10 - not too bad....
if you want to remove the secondary characters (FBI Chick, Matt's Wife, HRG, Voodoo) its 4 vs. 8 |

Wait a minite. The fbi chick is barely interesting. As for the female la detective, she's somewhat intereting. So I guess that makes 7 to 10.
Personally, I only count interesting females. so i would have to say Niki, Claire, la detective, Eden(mohinder's neighbor? bad memry)
more chicks on the show? Only if they are strong and interesting |

FBI Chick = The woman that Sylar almost did in... Not the red-headed b*tch.
I say that, because she is an interesting character, and it could create conflict between Matt and his wife... |

And I quote "How would you like to work with the FBI?"
And then, he is working with her....
I think that clinches that she is FBI
As for the Other one, I think the red-head was CIA or something, not FBI. |
