for those keeping up w/ the GNs...
It has been suggested that the villain's female accomplice in the Claude Novels could possibly be a younger Angela... and I tend to agree. She was also just revealed to be the one with the ability of dehydration.
I don't know. After all, when these events are supposed to be taking place, Angela should be at home with two young kids, and married to Papa Petrelli. I don't think it's her.
However, I don't think that it's not some sibling of hers. It could very well be her sister, or a cousin. After all, we've seen that these abilities are genetic and inherent. It could be that the bloodline has more than one "blossoming" character on it. After all, we've seen Peter and Nathan. If they can be siblings with abilities, what's to stop Angela from having a sister with an ability? They don't have to be similar. After all, what's similar about Peter and Nathan's abilities? Nothing, except that Peter can mimic everything his brother does. Other than that, there's nothing common about either ability.
We'll have to see what next week's comic has to say about who the "mystery woman" is.. I'm liking this GN much better than the last one.. It nearly seems to be like watching the season, but a bit shorter..
I was originally sort of feeling Obsidian's theory about dehydro-woman being Angela's sister - but now that you mentioned "An American in Paris," the Angela lightbulb just reclicked in my head.
When I first read that title, I was like, "Oh, they must be referring to Claude." And then you just made me realize that, "hey, wait a minute, Claude is British."
The woman could definitely be Angela - when we look at Angela now and analyze her demeanor, it's as if someone sucked the heart right out of her... maybe it's because of all those years of sucking the heart out of others... kudos, Action!!
While I definitely wouldn't be angry if the woman turned out to be Angela (provided they give a proper explanation, of course), I still can't jump on this bandwagon without more information.
My reasons for this are:
1. Why would the OWI be sending operatives to take out one of their own? Unless this is going to outline a feud between Linderman and Mama Petrelli before they conspired to blow up NYC, it just doesn't make sense to me.
2. Age discrepancy. Mama Petrelli is at least in her late 50s/early 60s. 17 years ago, she'd be at least 40 (I get my calculations since she tells Peter in Genesis that her and Papa Petrelli had been married for 41 years, and marriage laws in most parts of the country force you at least to be 17 or so before you can marry. 17+41=58....58-17=41). Do you think, based on the closeup of her in Golden Handshake, she really looks like a 40 year old? (I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm seriously asking this.)
3. If Angela's power is dehydration, where then did Peter get precognitive dreaming? It's not Charles Deveaux, since he started dreaming before working for him (per Six Months Ago).
4. Once again, her family. While I'm hardly the sexist type that thinks a mother should stay home with the kids...having a family does make it harder to just pop away and show up in Cote d'Azur, France. I guess she could have left the kids with a nanny and told Papa she was dealing with OWI business, but again..why would the OWI send operatives to take out one of their own, or their relatives?
If someone can explain all this to me, or at least give a plausible theory for my first reason, I'll let everything else slide. That's my biggest beef with the lady=Angela theory, and why I brought up the idea of a sister. Otherwise, I'd totally be on board for this. Any takers?
Edit: I will admit, based on my point #2 above, that the closeup in Golden Handshake indeed looks like Angela. I just can't put a finger on age, especially since she's running around in that little bikini getup (try asking a 40-year-old mother of two to put on a bikini! ). And I'm really not trying to start a battle or anything here, I just want to flesh this idea out a bit.
whis was 24 years ago, allowing her to be in her 20s if she is in her 50's now.
And maybe the Company was just sending Claude and the Arab there to get them killed. They're known for that kind of thing. So maybe its a setup and Angela is in on it...
What if Angela is the one that Claude was "hiding" in the past?
And SHE is another empath? ( I hate the multiple empath theories... but in this case it kinda makes sense what with the original confusion of who had the dehydration power.)
Then later on things w/ Linderman and Angela smoothed out? (maybe thanks to some money, or a deal where she let her husband be killed in exchange for a pardon...)
After some thought, I'm a bit more willing to accept this theory, but what bugs me about it now isn't the OWI going after her, it's the timing. According to the timeline, Angela becomes a grandmother a year or so after these events (Claire was born around '90-91). Peter's still about 9 or 10, while Nathan is probably about 23. Angela's not a spring chicken. What brought her out to France, and what caused her to start killing people, even way back when Peter was only 2 (7 years prior, Haram's first attempt to catch "Fusor")?
If this theory turns out to be true, will this be fodder for the next GN series? I mean, that's a lot of story to go over, and we only have 2 GNs left in this story arc.
3. If Angela's power is dehydration, where then did Peter get precognitive dreaming? It's not Charles Deveaux, since he started dreaming before working for him (per Six Months Ago).
This is indeed a great question, Obsidian, and my only answer would be that, as Action suggests, she could be an empath too - I, however, sort of like the idea of multiple empaths. What if, in the long run, it turns out to be absorbers vs. absorbers, Sylar and Boogyman #2 being our other ability absorbers, and Angela ultimately being on the side of Peter (although it seems otherwise at the moment). And if my other theory miraculously proves true and Boogyman #2 is Sylar's father (hinted by the "Gray & Sons" sign in "Six Months Ago"), then it will ultimately be Father and Son vs. Mother and Son. Just a thought (or a number of ridiculous pieces of thoughts, haha... my head is smoking now...)...
I had originally suggested that if Angela does in fact possess precognitive dreaming, then Peter could have even absorbed her power while still in the womb. Now that I think about it, chances are Peter COULD NOT have done this. Why? Because we must remember that the youngest Hero to manifest was Molly (or maybe Micah, whoever is younger). In the Petrelli bloodline, while we aren't sure about Angela yet, we do know that Nathan didn't manifest until Six Months Ago (probably). There's a very good chance that Peter couldn't have manifested when he was young, and this means that he wasn't able to absorb ANY powers until empathy kicked in (and again, this could very could be as recent as Six Months Ago as well - after all, we can only work with what we are shown/given).
I mean, Peter could have of course absorbed precognitive dreaming from some random person on the street, but in the Heroes Universe, there should be a decent explanation for every ability we see.
I think I've digressed from Angela to Peter, but are there any thoughts?
Another potential clue to the accomplice being an empath...
She was able to quickly remove her handcuffs and put them on Haram as if by magic.
Now they couldn't be trick cuffs, as she wouldnt bother using them on Haram because he could escape from them. It seemed like it was done too quickly for it to be explained by her picking the lock, so maybe it was an ability. Perhaps phasing?
and we of course can't forget that Claude has encountered empaths before. maybe this is the first.
