Kac so graciously provided us with the spoiler that we will find out that someone in the Heroes universe is adopted, and that it will make BIG difference.
Well, I think we'll find out that either Peter or Sylar are adopted, and there are two scenarios for this:
1) Peter might have been taken from a special whose lineage contained mimicry... which furthermore means Peter is not the first mimic...
If Peter is indeed adopted, then what if the previous mimic in Peter's lineage was 'evil' and needed to be killed? Thus, on behalf of The Company, Angela/Arthur take Peter in as their own.
OR
2) How about THIS crazy theory (which I think sounds cooler)... Sylar and Peter are (fraternal) twin brothers, and Angela/Arthur are the parents. We all know that Carlos Mendez was one of the original 12 (I'm assuming it is Isaac's father). What if Carlos also had precognition (like how Maury/Matt's have the same power), and what if Carlos foresaw that the two brother's would tear the world apart if they weren't separated, thus Angela/Arthur gave one of them away.
Thus, Gabriel was given up for adoption and Peter was kept. WHICH IS WHY THE COMPANY HASN'T KILLED SYLAR. Because Angela, one of the shot callers of The Company, refuses to have her son killed.
Whew! That was a mouthful. Thoughts?

I had the same thought when I read that a character was adopted. Peter seems right. It would definitely explain why Angela and Nathan treat him so strangely at times, like a red-headed stepchild. That's assuming Nathan knows, of course.
Oh yeah, and I can't help but think Claude "hiding" a hero will play into this too. Perhaps either Peter or Sylar, whichever was adopted (I'm leaning towards Peter right now), was the Hero that Claude was hiding. It would add depth to the whole Claude/Peter relationship.
I mean, you see Kimiko, and Kaito, but no mother of any sort.
Who's to say that Kaito isn't the one responsible for handing off orphans and keeping one himself?
We saw that Kaito gave Claire into HRG's keeping, and Hiro was with them then, if only a small boy. Yet we still don't see a mother of any type, so the possibility is there.....
Yes, Peter, Sylar, and Nathan are all good candidates, I'll grant you that.
However, this show has made it's fame by taking the road NOT looked at.
Just because it would be great to see doesn't mean that it will fit into the storyline.
What if Hiro's father is Adam?
Things just get more interesting as the ideas bubble up, you know??
i really doubt niki would be the adopted one. Just because of the family history put down about her and her sister, linderman's watching of her, unless niki AND her sister were both linderman's people to watch. then it woudl make sense, and hten it woudl make sense also that when jessica died Hal still kept niki.
(mainly i'm basing this on the backstory we learn in 1X10 Six Months Ago, from Jessica speaking to Hal about Niki's and her sisters childhood; using sister instead of Jessica to differentiate between the personality asn the actual person)

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to believe that Sylar will be revealed to be the adopted one, and that he is the son of someone in The Company (thus their reason for not killing him). The idea that Sylar is Peter's brother is all too appealing to me. After all, they do possess similar powers (one can acquire abilities, and one can absorb abilities). It just seems fitting that twins would possess similar abilities (whether closely related or complementary - such as Maya & Alejandro). Furthermore, from the previews,
it does look like Sylar might team up with Angela - and the reason for him not killing her could be the fact that she is his biological mother

Alternatively, I like Action's idea that Sylar is Bob's son. We haven't heard the words 'Sylar' come out of Bob's mouth much in the series (maybe a few times), and IMO it would totally throw us off guard if Sylar was Bob's son (which makes it more of a possibility IMO, since as Jorm correctly states, the writers usually take the road not looked at).
My second choice is Peter because of (1) the shock value, and (2) the fact that it leaves potential for there to have been a prior mimic before Peter that perhaps The Company had to get rid of. The fact that Peter's ability is so different from that of Angela and Nathan is another reason I think he is adopted. Sure, Claire and Meredith's are completely different, as are Micah/Niki/DL's abilities, but in my opinion, mimicry is on a whole other plateau than any other ability, and I just think that one mimic would have to have come from another mimic.
As my third chioce, I would choose definitely Niki over Hiro. Here's why:
Let's say Hiro is the adopted one. My question then is - So What???? Neither Kaito nor Hiro's mother are alive to answer any questions - what then? Will Hiro be sent on another journey to discover information? IMO, I think Hiro has had his fair share of journeys in the series and that another one would probably bore me. Now that he knows he can become a hero, I think he'll be taking on the baddies instead of doing something on his own. I just don't think that Hiro being adopted would serve much of a purpose in the show. Sure, it would be shocking, but I don't see anything beyond that.
On the OTHER hand, let's say Niki is adopted, and that Adam is her real father or grandfather (since Adam had once taken on the Sanders name - thanks for reminding us MPol!). Now THAT would be a ridiculous twist, no? For one, who in their right mind would dig up Adam from his grave? Angela/Bob feared for their lives when Adam was alive, so they definitely wouldn't want him free. Hiro, Peter, Nathan, and Matt definitely won't want him out since they've experienced his evil-ness first hand. Now, *ding dong* how about someone who could be Adam's potential daughter, or granddaughter?
The next question would be - so Niki discovers that Adam is her father/grandpa... HOW does she find him? Easy - with Molly. Season 1 ended with Molly in Niki's arms since, after all, they did 'rescue' her and bring her out of the building. I would assume that Niki could still have a relationship with Mohinder/Matt, who are taking care of Molly, and knowing what Molly's ability is, she could easily be used to locate Adam.
It would also leave more room for us to discover who Jessica was, and if she did have an ability as a child before she died. Also, what if Adam knew about Niki/Jessica as his children or grandchildren and actually was taking care of them. It's ENTIRELY possible that they could have been given up for adoption when Adam was sent to prison.
Personally, I just think that there is so much more the writers could do with Niki's character and background as opposed to Hiro's, but that's just me.

i too, like LEDVEE (i think thats how u spell it) want the backstory to claude, and who he was hiding. i REALLY hope they put him in a few eps or even just one in a flashback, and the person he was hiding= the adopted person (aka sylar or someone)
i reallllly hate the idea of sylar being related to a petrelli and i really hate the idea that nathan and peter arent brothers (i'm assuming you're saying its different dads?) even that'd suck imo
nikki would be cool but...this adoption thing, i gotta think more about it. i'm kinda hoping isaac...and we find out by peter's mom 'seeing' all this crazy future stuff (in the form of an episode) and then at the end, we see it 'take form' like when isaac in season 1 saw claire running from the shadow and painted it...its like he's "seeing it" and then it kinda freeze frames and he paints it
the eps could end showing that it was all just a painting, and we see the painter as the camera zooms out...angela
also, her being 'older' with her power, isaac, paints and doesnt really know what they mean, or others for that matter...its kinda cryptic, not with angela, she can see 'long views' meaning, sure, she paints a painting, but she remembers much more about it...think of isaac's painting of claire, then snapping out of it and remembering seeing that....now angela would do that but for much longer.
the next eps would be like her WANTING that to happen or something bah..off topic
if someone HAS to be adopted...i choose...YOU (pikachu) but seriously, i'm gonna guess sylar being bob's son. that way, he chose to save him from kirby plaza, and just inject him with the virus, rather than killing him
Ah, I totally forgot to respond to your Claude thought, Led. I like it A LOT. In "Company Man," Claude and HRG really did make a big deal about the special that Claude was hiding - after all, it was the reason Claude was ELIMINATED! I, too, would love for the writers to re-explore the situation and drop a bombshell, two seasons later, regarding Claude's reason for hiding the special.
Yes, I am suggesting that Peter and Nathan are of different fathers, Def (that is, if Peter is the adopted one).
A little off topic, but part of me still wants to believe that Peter could potentially be the offspring of Linderman + Angela. I still think that Angela is the woman in the GN's who can suck the life out organic things. Logically, it sort of makes sense (in my head, that is!)... two polar opposites of the spectrum create a being who has the potential to do it all --> Healer (Linderman) + Life Sucker (Angela) = Mimic
I don't know why it makes sense in my head, it just does.
As for Isaac being the adopted one, I don't think the writers would do that because it would be pointless, in my opinion, and wouldn't be that much of a shocker considering that (1) he's dead, and (2) we don't even know his parents (yeah, we know Carlos Mendez's name, but we've never seen him in the series aside from the picture of the Original 12). I also don't see the writers bringing Isaac back, whether for flashbacks or in real life (even though they probably could with a Claire/Adam's blood). Ability-wise, there's no need to bring Isaac back either - Sylar and Peter can already do what he can do.
That's a nice connection with the virus though, Def. Silly me completely forgot that Sylar had the virus all of Season 2, and after all, it's a great way for someone to subdue their power hungry murderer of a son.

Adam taught his disciples to join together as a team. He also wanted them to breed the perfect Sg.
However, he has a system of leaving behind his kids.
Maury left matt. Adam left two kids.

On his way to Las Vegas to meet with Mr. Linderman, Nathan encountered Mohinder Suresh, who attempted to warn him that his life may be in danger. Nathan mistook Mohinder for his recently murdered father, Chandra, assumed that Peter sent him, and ignored the man. In Las Vegas, Nathan encountered Jessica Sanders and the two slept together. The one-night stand was recorded on a sex tape in a blackmail attempt by Linderman. Afterwards, Noah Bennet monitored them and had the Haitian kidnap Nathan.
Kaito gave away claire to noah. Angela knew about.

At Angela's home, Angela explains to Claire that she and her husband took steps to protect Claire. After the fire, she let Nathan believe Claire had died. She admits to knowing about Claire's powers, and urges her to go to Paris until she's old enough to make her own choices. When Claire asks Angela if she is just like her, she deflects the question.

With so many precogs and eidetic memory users, they could have figured out who would have a high 'chance' [from their dna combination] to have a certain type of child.Some SG maybe mastered probability or used the ability to birth rare SGs.

If linda tavara's dna was used then who knows what the potential could be. Adam can ressurect people.
Charles' and kaito dna might be special too since he could see that peter had invisbility. I cannot believe no know believes that Charles is like Linda tavara or sylar.

There's one real problem with getting answers from Victoria Pratt....
She's Dead.
Adam shot her near the end of season 2. He told Peter that she was going to shoot him in the head with a shotgun. "There's no coming back from that" is the famous line we argued over about whether someone with regen could survive if the brain sustained an injury.....
Anyway, aside from travelling back in time to tinker with the mind of Victoria Pratt, the only other way they're going to get info is to infiltrate the files and security of the company itself.
wow, you talk as if 'time traveling' is the only option, they CAN bring people back from the dead remember...pratt is dead, and is never coming back, and will NEVER give us answers, book it
