Have people just lost interest and started being silly in your thread?

If you think a topic or thread has served it's purpose and come to a satisfactory conclusion, post a link to it in this thread and I or one of the mod-squad will take a wander down there and have a look.

If it's clear and obvious that the thread has drawn to a conclusion, it'll be locked off.
If it's unclear whether it should be locked, it will be put to the vote.

Of course, death is never the end, and if you've got something really important to say, a locked topic can always be unlocked. Just give me a shout and I'll wander down with the keys.

I agree, Slippy, especially after some activity of late on the Bent Space forum.

I've noticed lately that some people are searching old forum topics (especially in the Bent Space forum) and commenting for the sake of commenting, just to rack up their waffle count. And they're being very rude when someone points out that they're cluttering the boards with old topics (I'm talking about stuff like commenting on old posts about Halloween costumes when we're in May)

I've read the rules, and I'm not sure if this necessarily breaks any of them, but maybe there could be a scheduled cleanup of bigger boards to avoid this kind of business. If a post contributes nothing to the thread except annoyance, isn't that kind of trolling? It's annoying to the rest of us, and I frankly feel really bad for the people who are trying to call the moderators' attention to it and being berated by rude...kids.

Good point, Payquage. I just took to the suggestion boards because I wasn't sure what measures had already been taken. I didn't want to get involved if the moderators already had the situation under control, I was just making a suggestion to avoid future episodes of the sort, since they're bound to happen.

BYD already locked the specific threads in question, so do you think I should still attempt to PM the person?

Thanks for pointing these things out to myself and the mods, I really appreciate this. By doing so you help us keep this place fun for everyone.

Posting for the sake of "getting waffles" isn't technically against the rules, however as this has demonstrated it isn't going to win anyone points with the other members of this community either. Posting constructively with useful comments, theories, and insights will get you waffles AND win you points with others. The system works. Smile

The Report User/Thread system and Reputation Points help the moderators and I keep the place friendly, but nothing beats direct feedback.

It is determined mainly by a discussion resuting in a conclusion. For example, we had a thread discussing who Claire's bio father was. Once it was revealed on the show, the discussion pretty much was over.

When a thread is locked, it does not disappear. Anyone can still read the thread, simply no new posts can be added.
