So check this out:
Isn't the mascot for Claire's new school a Conquistador?
On the back of Derek's car it said, "GO CONQUISTADORS!!"
So... I'm thinking that Derek is from Costa Verde, and considering that
Sylar will most likely kill Derek, as stated in spoilers, I think he'll find out where Derek is from, and Sylar, Maya, and Alejandro will go there. And if that's the case, then Claire, West, and the Butlers are in TROUBLE.
Thoughts?

Didn't someone, mentioned that Derek's car COULD very well be Claire's car that was being stolen.
That will pretty much explain an American student in Mexico Jail. Speeding maybe?
Oooo... really? I didn't even realize that. To me, Derek's car looked to be a different color than Claire's - or am I going crazy? If someone did propose this, then consider this theory a joint one! Lol
Any chance Derek was told to steal the car, go to Mexico and get thrown in jail in this particular town by a precog (I'm thinking one of the 12) so he could either lead Maya and Alejandro back or, if it's one of the Company loyalists, to extract Sylar because they lost contact w/ Candace?
I say a precog as one of the 12 because Linderman referred to "these artists" when speaking to Nathan in season one, so Isaac wasn't the only one. Perhaps it was a reference to one of the original group?
It's not a well formed theory, I know, but I'd like to see all (or even some) of this be the result of a deliberate act. There's a LOT of chance events for all of these characters to happen upon each other in addition to running into someone, in captivity, who happens to have an indirect tie to Claire. I suppose it's likely to be one of those things I need to overlook for the sake of the story though...

The show has some coincidences which are tough on the suspension of disbelief. A lot of people had problems with Nathan being Claire's biological father. I had problems with Linderman the mob boss also being the head (or at least a major shareholder) in the OWI.
Now I've accepted that there are no heroes who are not involved with the OWI in one way or another. And heroes are going to meet up even when the odds are astronomical against it.
It's been speculated that Sylar's father, Kensei, and Micah's Nana were among the twelve founders, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if the Haitian's father and/or one of Maia and Alejandro's parents was, too. Heck, even WTTB could have been one of them.
I'm glad someone mentioned the bumper sticker on Derek's car. I noticed it but couldn't read it.
I have no problems with the idea of Derek leading (or pointing) Sylar back to Costa Verde.
Well, Action, the theory is not that it's Claire's car, but rather that Maya, Alejandro, and Sylar will go to California based on info Sylar may find in the car/on Derek and he will get to Claire and West.

It doesn't have to be Claire's car if it's established that Derek is from Costa Verde otherwise (like by the bumper sticker). But having it be Claire's stolen car makes a much bigger hint that Costa Verde is their destination.
Is it confirmed that Conquistadors is the mascot for the fictional Costa Verde high school?
I was thinking that Conquistadors (instead of Aztecs) meant Derek was a college student (age appropriate) and that he went to a San Diego State University type school. This meaning that he would lead Maya and Alejandro (posing as college students) back to California, or at least until they come across Sylar.
West,Claire and the Butlers may be in trouble but if Sylar has an affliction (virus etc) that prevents him from obtaining a persons ability then Claire is alright for the time being as should West be, but i think HRG would be in more trouble than them. Plus if Maya gives them her virus then Alejandro can come along and clear things up again. Plus i cant see them killing off the Butlers on a whole for quite a while yet (especially Claire after reading s01ep01 starting credits more closely than you first take them for *quick introduction that no-one will remember by episode 5*) as the whole story revolves around them on a whole as Sylar's after Claires power which is the main basis to the entire Heroes story (as if you didnt know that by now)
As Action mentioned in another thread - I don't think Sylar is incapable of obtaining powers. I think he is just incapable of using the acquired powers (aside from his normal intuitive aptitude of course). Hmm...
The only point I don't get is this: When did Claire's car end-up with the bumper sticker with the "Conquistadors" written all over it? I did not see the bumper sticker on the car.
However, I have found a couple of pertinent spoilers, and it also would explain these photos a lot better now:
And of course all of discussion about the messing about with the Bennetts (aka the Butlers) discussed here and here.
The important bit is near the end, where Kristin says that:
Quote:
Jack Coleman himself recently told me that the Bennets (as a family) don't take well to being mucked around.
And he might not be dying just yet. And I don't think Sylar will be killing Claire just yet either.
But as for the rest of the theory.... That is probably Claire's car -- if someone tells me how it ended-up with a bumper sticker in less than one day!!!!
