I didn't see anyone post this or say anybody about so i thought i'd start a thread for it.
You'll see in this clip at the very beginning in the first question that is asked....that peter has all of sylar's powers that he's absorbed so far.. So after this next meeting peter may die but not for good probably and after that will have even more abilities just from being around sylar. let the argument rest. Here is the link to the clip.
Sorry guys the link doesn't work it sends you to a random heroes video on nbc.com
So just go nbc.com and watch the new april 23rd preview and on the right hand side where you can choose another video to watch WHILE watching the preview watch the Wizard press conference pt. 2. The description starts with: Peter has the power.....
I remember specifically reading a counterpoint to that...it was either Krings or Beeman's blog and they stated that peter ONLY got TK from Sylar on their first meeting.
The biggest thing is, even if he HAS all these powers, can he use them without even knowing he has them if they aren't always on abilites (regeneration). Will he ever know to use the metal melting ability if he has no idea he has it?
His drawing in the hospital. He didn't know he had Isaac's. He was just drawing... his eyes didn't even turn white.
He also didn't realize he had Sylar's TK when he used it on the roof with Claude. He got angry, which is what he felt towards Sylar, I guess, so he picked up his power and used it. He even had to think and try and remember who he ran across that had TK.
I agree Acid. But I'm curious as to how (or if, it may not be worth doing) the writers will explain why that emotional trigger won't trigger all of Sylars powers at once. I suppose it could be more a combination of the emotion and what Peter is trying to accomplish at that moment.
Does Peter, like it seems Sylar has to, see the ability before he can actually use it? Because we know sylar has other abilities, possibly freezing, but Peter doesnt know this. If Peter's abilities are linked to feelings and emotions then how will he be able to pick out just one of Sylar's abilities when he is angry?
I don't think he has to see the ability in order to utilize it. Look what happened to him after saving Claire - he didn't see her heal but was able to use her ability after taking that fall.
Sylar on the other hand was not able to heal himself (at least in the graphic novel after being shot by Bennet).
Peter can absorb powers w/o killing, but Sylar can not. I think that is why Peter healed and Sylar can not (since he didnt kill Claire). Peter did witness Claire's ability in himself and thus was able to reproduce that when he landed on the taxi. Also he figured it out when he landed (after tackling Sylar and saving Claire) and his wounds healed up.
He can either use the ability conciously, reflexively, or instinctively.
When he fell off the school, his body saw he was dying and instinctively used a power to help him, kicking in the healing.
When Claude was beating the crap out of him, he reflexively used TK to stop it. He had seen the power and although didn't remember it off the top of his head, his body knew how to do it, he was feeling scared like he did when Sylar was around, so his body used a power that was needed to stop having his skull crushed in.
And of course he is conciously using powers when needed (invisibility, flying).
So. The powers like Cryokinesis, matter manipulation, etc he will probably never use unless he comes across a situation where he HAS to use it to survive because he won't be able to conciously pull it from his card deck as he has no idea he has it.
But, let's say he's about to be dumped into lava and is restrained from flying or whatever, he'd probably freeze the lava out of the instinct to survive, but I think if he had other options (flying away, TKing the lava out of touch) he'd do that conciously first.
=====
We've also noticed on one occassion that a power he had just manifested itself without him conciously knowing he can do it and without the need to do it...when he drew the stick figures of him flying with Nathan.
So, perhaps some powers are...don't know how to describe it...some powers can't be controlled so much? Like, they manifest whether the holder of the power wants to or not? That makes sense for Isaac because I'm sure that even though he was high he wasn't like "I'm like totally going to paint the future now, watch this!"...his power manifested through him when he was in a weakened mental state. And Peter was in the hospital, also drugged up probably when he manifested that ability.
So...let's list Peter's powers:
Flying: Instinctive, Concious
Prophetic dreaming (unknown source): Manifested
Phophetic drawing (Isaac): Concious, Manifested
Time stoppage: Reflexive, Concious
Teleportation (not used): Doesn't know yet, would take something like a nuclear bomb going off for him to instinctively use it, otherwise he'd stop time, use TK or fly.
Mind reading: Concious
Telekinesis: Concious, reflexive
Cryokinesis (not used): Doesn't know yet, would need an inescapable situation that would require freezing specifically to become instinctively manifestable.
Edelectic Memory: Doesn't know yet, but probably always on and he has it but hasn't noticed.
Intuitiveness (Gabriel Gray): Doesn't know yet, don't see how this would be forced to manifest unless he had to disarm a bomb or something.
Invisibility: Concious
Regeneration: Instinctive, Concious
Persuasion (Eden McCain): Arguably has been used on Isaac. We don't know. He doesn't know he has the power, so it would be an instinctive thing where it's absolutely imperative that someone does something Peter tells them.
Super Hearing: This one will probably manifest itself and then will be concious
Matter Manipulation (Zane Taylor): Don't see this one manifesting itself unless he's in a life or death situation where he'd have to melt bars to get out of something...but teleportation might kick in first.
I think that's it? Did I miss any?
edit: fixed typo. While Peter was indeed drying from his wet blood, his body noticed he was dying
Good job, Fatalmoon, I like your answer. I agree with the ways he can use his abilities. I would like to see wither him or Sylar freeze something. Or Peter have super sensitive hearing after this encounter with Sylar.

Anyone else wanna take a stab at my question?
Huh? I did answer your question:

No he doesn't. When he saved Claire at the high school, he never saw her use her abilities. Peter and Sylar struggle and fall of the rooftop and Peter was able to heal himself - just by by being around Claire and never actually knowing Claire could heal/regenerate (I think he even questions Claire on this ability).

The question he was wanting answered was why he didn't freeze, TK, memorize, and figure out what made Claude tick when Peter felt scared.

Ah. OK. But think about this: Claude beat the crap out of him for a couple of minutes before TK kicked in. He fell off a roof without the Flight thing kicking in (I am sure he was scared there). We only saw the first few seconds of the Sylar encounter so we have to wait and see how Peter responds.
Although I may be understanding the question correctly ...
