I setup a system tonight where new members must have replied to at least two existing topics before they can start their own new topics. There are two reasons for this new rule - the first being to cut down on forum spam, and the second is to encourage new members to learn the lay of the land before posting a new topic.
This also means that new members will need to reply to two existing topics before they can post their introduction in the "First Impressions." While I realize this is a bit of an annoyance, I hope you can understand the reasons for needing this rule.
Rule edited to require two posts instead of five.

I agree also,
it took me awhile to get the general lay of the land.
One of the things I like about the board is the lack of spam and flaming going on.
I haven't seen a lot of harsh replies to peoples ideas or any general meanness,
nor have I seen a lot of come ons for other sites of questionable merits either.
Is this the result of the high caliber of the membership on this board
or is it due to the diligence of the administrator and various moderators
weeding out the chaff?

I'd like to credit both but our members are #1. The people here are really fantastic, and the moderating staff all work very hard to keep up with things. However, if there weren't great members on this board us mods and admins wouldn't have anything to do!
That's really good to hear Superhiro,
I just want to take a moment to Thank You and the Other Moderators
for making such a cool place for us to play in.
Thanks

this is an excelent idea because when i was new i posted a topic that somebody had already posted and i didnt know
if i woulda posted some replies before i did that i woulda known
They're in several topics (but I don't think 5 seperate ones).
This is only my seventh post, so it's not a major deal, It'll happen when it happens.
I'm not a big forum poster, so this kind of thing confuses me a bit.
As do the various points and rankings thingies.
With that said, I'm really getting into this one!
Of course it helps that it's such a great show!
Is there anyway to make this message stand-out a little more. I didnt read this when I first came on and I thought I could post topics right away so i type a new topic for about 30 mins. and i finally click post and I didnt even have 5 posts yet so ya I had to re-type it and everything i was really sad

Excellent suggestion, I have added a link to this thread to the welcome message every new member gets.
