I setup a system tonight where new members must have replied to at least two existing topics before they can start their own new topics. There are two reasons for this new rule - the first being to cut down on forum spam, and the second is to encourage new members to learn the lay of the land before posting a new topic.
This also means that new members will need to reply to two existing topics before they can post their introduction in the "First Impressions." While I realize this is a bit of an annoyance, I hope you can understand the reasons for needing this rule.
Rule edited to require two posts instead of five.
got it .. fair enough..
looking forward to a fun forum talks with everyone
Ahah! You got me for a while there. Yes, this system is a bit of a spanner in the proverbial works for us new folk. Especially those with popup blockers which prevent our immediate attention being drawn to the explanatory PM
But it is a very good system. At very least it ensures that you will only get members who really want to be here, and are willing to !work! for that very first thread.
Thanks, I appreciate you saying so. The measures I have put in place and the diligence of our moderators have kept this community 99.9% spam free since the beginning which makes it a better place for all. On the rare occasion where the .1% spam entered by a human being sneaks in, we let the Haitian have some fun with them!

Thanks for drawing my attention to the popup blocker issue. I've modded the messages link in the menu bar to include a nifty little icon that flashes red (like the Batphone) when you've got a new private message.
Now if you could only get some kind of "Bat Signal" for when there are new posts to read and respond to, then I wouldn't have to keep bugging you about the new digest, or things of that nature SH!
Okay that makes sense. I was at this other site that said you had to be apart of the board for three months before you could add a topic. Nice to see that we don't have that type of ego.
Sorry you got upset, it's just a way to help deter spam topics. There's a welcome PM sent to every new member that contains a list of commonly asked questions, and the "Two replies to start a topic" rule is the first on the list.
