Anyone else a huge fan of LOST as I am? I'm so excited for new episodes. Seasons 3 comes out next Tuesday on DVD and I'll buy it of course. What do you guys think is going to happen this season on the show? The finale last year was quite a mind blower!!!

I love LOST! I've been a fan since they blew up the hatch near the end of Season 1 (that was the first whole episode I watched). I was sold when they introduced Desmond in Jack's flashbacks, only to have him be the one in the hatch. Major WTF moment! lol

At first, I didn't like that they were introducing flash-forwards, mainly because I didn't like the direction the story had taken. Jack's a hot alcoholic mess, and Kate is with a mystery man who may or may not be Sawyer...even after we just saw Jack tell her he loved her???? AND he wants back on the island???? wtf indeed!

The flash-forwards in and of themselves are a good plan, just because there's only so much back story they can tell with flashbacks, and it seems like they're starting to run out of ideas for that. I just hope that the story progresses in the flash-forwards too, and the show won't end as bleakly as it looks right now.

I hope the writer's strike ends soon, otherwise we're getting cut off with only 8 episodes this season. Sad

Oh, and what's up with Richard's non-aging in Ben's flashback episode? That's gotta be explained! Nestor Carbonell needs to get back on the show, STAT!

Yeah that would be great if they explained why he didn't age. Is he off the show for good? I know he's on another network show. Like Heroes, I didn't start watching LOST until the middle of the 2nd season. I caught up on DVD and now I'm obsessed! I thought the writers from LOST made me mad, but then I started watching Heroes and realized how good they are! LOL! I think that's what really blows my mind is that Jack wants back on the island!

I have no idea if it's for good, but I think he's a regular on Cane now. Which I haven't bothered watching, even though it's about Cubans and I'm Cuban (and so is Nestor Carbonell...lol). I just know I'll get mad when they get something wrong...besides, it's on during Law and Order: SVU. SVU beats Cane out by a long shot in my book.

I hope they can get him back somehow. Why'd he have to go and do another show? His character on LOST was just starting to get interesting.

*sigh*...It's gonna be a long, long wait between now and the start of LOST. All the shows I watch are pretty much done with new episodes for the rest of the month. Of course, when I'm off from school! mad

I wonder if he'll just disappear or if they will address it?

Things I want to find out this season
1) Who/what is Jacob?
2) How did Locke's dad get to the island?
3) What really happened to Desmond? Did he time travel or what?
4) Are the others Good or Bad?
5) Why do they still live on the island if they can get off?

I hope they address it. Doesn't have to be this season, but as long as they don't leave unanswered questions by show's end, I'll be happy.

mattk25 wrote:

I have no idea what's up with Jacob, but you know if you pause the episode at just the right moment, you can see a person sitting in his chair...and the writers have said that it wasn't a mistake! Shocked

mattk25 wrote:

Ohh...you mean about all the stuff that happened after the hatch went blooey...Yeah, how was he able to see when Charlie would die? And why Charlie?? Why not Niki or Paulo? They bit the bullet too. Thank God. lol

I don't know, but Juliet seriously gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Well the island has to have some kind of appeal, or else Jack wouldn't want to go back..shrug

I am glad you all started a thread on this!!!

I can answer (5) for you, as this is the only one that I know for sure:

The ISLAND is the famed: "Fountain of Youth". But there is a price: Infertility. Hence, all the experimenting and abducting of children. The fact that the Korean woman (whose name escapes me right now) is pregnant, blows my mind (and everyone's on the island, who is a long time resident). People (unscrupulous people at that) have been trying to find the island for a very long time. And all these people have been trying to protect it. Locke saw the truth of it, once he passed "thru the veil" of having been killed and resurrected. Can you be killed on the island? Yes! But obviously, Jacob, chose to bring Locke back. But apparently, Locke was NOT in time to prevent Jack from radioing that boat.

That boat was not sent from Desmond's girlfriend. That boat is the unscrupulous elements that went the "fountain of youth" for themselves. This is what the OTHERS and Locke where trying to protect in the last episode. This is why Jack is trying to get back to it. Up until this episode, I wanted the others DEAD. But now? Judge for yourselves. Are their morals right? No! Are their methods right? Most of the time? No! But what they are trying to protect? What would you do? Would you not be doing the same thing? So don't judge, lest you be judged yourself!

Jack got off the Island where he had everything, eternal youth, fame, authority, strength, women, leadership, etc., and now he has nothing. We saw in his flashbacks the demons in his life he had to overcome. Some people, like Kate overcome their past better than others. Jack did not. He overcame his past on the island. But once on the real world, he could not function again.

I love this turn in the storytelling of "Lost". I only have Season 1 on DVD. Hope to get Season 2 this Christmas. I know, I am behind!!!

That's a fascinating theory, Herc, but I just have one beef with it. It may have more to do with how you present it than the actual theory, but whatever:

If your theory is true, then the Others presumably know about what they're protecting..at least some of them. If that's the case, why did they bring Juliet, a fertility doctor, to the island to research why pregnant women keep dying? Is it because they're trying to cheat the system, or do they really have no idea that that's the consequence for living on the Fountain of Youth?

I guess, I have spent TOO MUCH time on "Lost" forums lurking. I think, that's where I got the idea -- unless, I got it on one of those shows on ABC, where they tried to explain "Lost" -- you know, those yearly, summary shows they do.

In terms of who Juliet is and what she is doing, it's not that they are trying to cheat, it's just that they are trying to take this to the next level. Ok, so we have discovered the "fountain of youth".... no one gets old, no one dies here (unless shot or by accident or whatever). How do we take it to the next level? Why can't women carry children to full term? Is that the trade-off for immortality? I think, that's what Juliet was doing there.

Personally, I buy this theory. I believe this island is "Mystery Island" and "Fountain of Youth" and all other fantasy tales all rolled into one. That's how you explain all of its mysteries. Some people just know more of its secrets than others. And Jacob just might be "the Sandman".... maybe.

I guess that's where they could be headed. It's an interesting theory, spurred on by the fact that Richard hasn't aged...but I guess my other question is: at what point does the "youth" kick in? Ben grew up on the island, and now he's a middle-aged man. Tom seems pretty well on in years too...but then we don't know what age he was when he reached the island. And Aaron seems to be growing nicely too (on a sidenote...I wonder how many different babies have played him, seeing as the original baby must be about 3 years old by now, and the show's main plot is still back in 2004! Shocked).

*sigh*
I guess, like I've said before, all I really want is for Cuse and Lindelof and all the others involved in LOST to actually answer all the questions they've posed, and then I'll be happy.

Unless they pull a St. Elsewhere and make it the dream of an autistic child.....then they'll be getting one heck of a nasty letter! lol

And going back to Claire and Aaron, how did Claire survive giving birth to him? Did they say it was because she had gotten pregnant off the island, or is that still in the "unanswered questions" pile?

I'm not buying the Fountain of Youth theory mostly for all the reason Obsidian said. One of the questions I want answered that I forgot about is the whole plane crash thing. They told us in so many words that Desmond caused the plane to crash, but what caused them to survive? I mean 99.999999999999999999999999% of the time there wouldn't be any. There are alot of crazy things going on, Jacob, Richard not aging, Locke's dad showing up, Locke getting cured, Smoke monster, etc. I just hope when it's all over, all questions are answered reguardless of how lame they may be! LOL!

Don't forget:
the polar bear
the horse
how Mr. Eko's brother managed to crash on that very island
Desmond's freaky powers
how the Dharma Initiative even found that island if no one else supposedly could
will Jack and Claire ever find out they're siblings?
if Locke gets off the island, will he need a wheelchair again?
and finally...what the heck do those darn numbers mean?

am I missing any other of the millions of unanswered questions?

Yes of course you are, but there are so many questions! Like was Hurley seeing an imaginary friend Dave or was he really there? What was Libby doing in the same Phsyc hospital as Hurley? See there are so many questions left unanswered! I hope they wrap some of this stuff up this season.

Ok, let me answer some of these questions, and don't attack me for the answers or the theories:

Quote:

I thought, Claire got pregnant outside of the island. I thought she was carrying the spawn of "the devil" and could therefore been a contributor to the plane crash landing... How she survived the birthing process, we were never told, but again, we were given indications that she was carrying the "spawn of the devil" -- so, that baby would have survived NO MATTER WHAT, in my eyes.

Quote:
the polar bear

They (as in multiple) were brought there by the Dharma Initiative. I thought that was made plainly clear.

Quote:
the horse

That was a dream..... Wasn't it? I don't remember.....

Quote:
how Mr. Eko's brother managed to crash on that very island

The island sits in the middle of magnetic null void. That's why instruments can not find it. And that's why compasses have such a hard time distinguising magnetic north and all the other magnetic anomalies. Now, once you do stumble onto the island, it is not hard to plot your way back there, like the Others kept doing. But finding it the first time, is the big problem. Mr. Ecko's brother, just went off course and the fates had him land on the same island.

Quote:
Desmond's freaky powers

Poor Desmond was too close to some amazing, some intense magnetic powers....when they released, KABLOOIE! That's what happened to him. He's superpowered now. Even the executive producers said so.

Quote:
how the Dharma Initiative even found that island if no one else supposedly could

See above.

Quote:
will Jack and Claire ever find out they're siblings?

I hope so!

Quote:
if Locke gets off the island, will he need a wheelchair again?

Yes.

Quote:
what the heck do those darn numbers mean?

Have no clue... But it's fun to play their combinations on Powerball once in a long while when i try it.... Very Happy I still don't win though!!!

Whether you buy the "Fountain or Youth" theory or not, the Others are protecting a secret, and it's obvious from Locke's reaction even after Ben shot him and left him for dead, that HE BUYS IT too!!! It makes more sense to keep the secret, secret and find OTHER ways of getting OFF the island.

To me, that was the biggest surprise of Last Season. Because, I so much hated the Others, I wanted them dead.

If a writer can invoke that reaction from an audience (you know, make them turn 180 degrees and say: "what? they were right all along?") then that writer has succeeded, and that's a good TV show. Don't you think?[/code]
