maybe he can mimic an ability, or cause someone to use their power unknowingly/against their wishes. not an empath like peter, but MIMIC (only in their vicinity)
maybe he "borrowed" hiro's ability while training him, to be like DBZ's hyperbolic time chamber....OR..he just subconciously made hiro use it..so it created the same DBZ htc effect. not sure, but i really wish i could have see him fight back, rather than accept his fate.
I don't think Monica's eyes shine transparent. I think they reflect what she's watching (if I'm not, when she saw those wrestling moves, her eyes reflected what was shown on the TV... can anyone confirm?)
However, I'm beginning to warm up to the idea that Kaito could have the same ability as Monica, which is why he needed a sword to defend himself. No amount of hand to hand combat could kill Adam in my opinion.
Sure, hand-to-hand combat couldn't kill Adam, unless you were strong enough to like pop his head off his shoulders.
I tell you though, if I were pyrokinetic, i would've used said power to defend myself. Kaito just didn't have time to teach Adam how to not be crazy, the poor guy.
Kaito's ability to teach can't be right, he comments how surprised he was to Hiro learning how to handle a sword so quickly.
Guess its just genetics :p
Maybe Kaito has Spiderman-like abilities? Sorta like in the movie Spiderman when the bully is about to punch Peter Parker, everything slows down and Peter stares at the fist that would've punched him if he didn't have good reflexes?
That would sorta be good with using a sword, you could find open spots and dodge all attacks.
When we first saw Kaito get pushed off, Hiro was probably behind the scenes and we couldn't see him until we got the different point of view where he actually took his father back. I mean, everything was in the same spot as the first time he got pushed off and there is no way the either of them could have known he would have died right there right then.
No he might not known he was going to die, but he had a good idea someone was trying to kill him, hence him getting ready to leave. He basically just stood there and did nothing. All I'm saying is if Kaito's power was Spider-man like power and reflex then why didn't he do anything when Adam charged him? He just stood there. A guy with those type of reflexs would've have been able to at least dodge the attack. He just stood there after Adam tooking a running start from a good distance away. That's why I'm say his power wasn't what you suggested.
I'm thinking he didn't do anything because once Hiro told him he would die, Kaito allowed it to happen because he believes it's not up to him to change his "destiny". If Hiro hadn't gone back and told him, he might not have allowed himself to die. Basically, Hiro telling him he would die made it a self fulfilling prophecy...I think.
Which is why Time Travel is such a mind-bender. Would Kaito have died if Hiro hadn't gone back to tell him about it?
Since he didn't seem to put up a fight, it is entirely possible that the only reason Kaito dies is because Hiro told him he dies - if he hadn't, then he might have put up a fight and gotten away.
Who really knows?
Now, had they shown us Kaito putting up a fight at first, then a changed "past" of Kaito giving up easily, then we'd know exactly what happened, and that Hiro couldn't have changed anything - but as it stands it is entirely possible that Hiro caused Kaito's death (and possibly even the entire plotline of both seasons - what with creating the monster that is Adam).
I agree, Ambience. Time travelling is QUITE the mind-bender.
In "Cautionary Tales," we find out that Hiro returns Kaito to the present timeline just moments before Adam arrives. It brings up the question of: did this ALWAYS happen in each and every timeline (and we just didn't see it the first time), or was episode 9 the first time that it actually happened?
I assume that it always happened. I doubt that Kaito would be standing on a roof for 12 hours (from the moment Angela left to the moment Adam & Ando appeared). Furthermore, Kaito told Angela that he would be going back to Japan that same night. I'm sure that was true at first, but then Hiro came after Angela left and teleported with his father. That was the moment Kaito knew that he wasn't going back to Japan that night.
While Adam is the killer, I would argue that it was Hiro's fault that Kaito couldn't defend himself, as JJ says. If the Hiro and Kaito encounter occurred in every timeline, then we now know our answer as to why it was so easy to kill Kaito. Because Kaito knew he was going to die. There's no fighting back from a person who knows he's going to die and is unwilling to try and change it.
If Hiro never showed up, then Kaito might very well have boarded a plane back to Japan.

Totally agree that the reflex power is 99% not his power.
But I do believe in the fact that this has happened over and over again, like Popkorn and Ambience expanded upon.
If we never find out in the show, think Tim will explain to us what the 12's powers were in an interview after this season is over? Or will he save it for future seasons? Or just blow us off completely =[
i brought this up earlier, but what if he can stop time, slow it down, teleport, but not TIME TRAVEL. it'd be pretty brilliant of the writers to do that if you ask me.

what if he just couldnt time travel but could do everything else...OR...what if his "honor" prevented him from time traveling, and messing with the past?
