Im positive i know how to correctly display an image in post,as I've done it before and am no stranger to bbcode, yet I seem to get a "broken pic" icon nearly every time i try to post one now.

so anyone have an idea why?

It was working for me just a couple of days ago, but I just tried it now and I get a broken image too. I don't know what to tell you. It's a glitch.

perhaps it is the site the image comes from then?

it happens whenever i try a heroeswiki image, and it just happened w/ an image from beeman's blog.

Now I see what's going on. Those sites are using a common method on their webserver called ".htaccess" to limit hotlinking or embedding of those images on forums or other sites. The reason for this makes sense from a webmaster's perspective - if you have hundreds of forums linking to an image you incur the bandwidth cost of that image being served up on other sites.

Best way to embed images in this case is to use an image hosting service like ImageShack and then place the image in your post.

So is it ok to copy their image, put it on imageshack and then link it here? Because how else would you do it? I am not sure about the propriety of doing that, tho...?

The only thing I can say about that is your best bet is to try to get permission from the copyright holder to use the images. This site specifically uses transformative methods to display an image thumbnail that is smaller and of lesser quality than the original, which constitutes fair use. When clicked the thumbnail takes you to the site the image is actually hosted on.
