Peter couldn't fly himself because he hasn't mastered control of the powers yet, he has some semblance of control but every so often he freaks out. With the fire power raging he probably couldn't call on his other powers that require concentration (e.g. flight). Some latent powers such as regeneration act as second nature.
I think that Charles Deveaux was wrong in the dream scene. Nathan was the strong one who returned and saved Peter's life (Pete survives the explosion, regenerating), so Pete lives, NYC is ok, and it's just Nathan that goes bye bye.
I think that Ma Patrelli is still an organizing force in the Company and may just be the next big villian... what's her superpower? Absorbtion like Peter? She's kind of an ice queen y'know.
I'm still sitting here in shock and disbelief. This is most definitly the greatest telvesion show made. Never foresaw Nathan redeeming himself.. I hope he lives.
I'm so baffled as to what Mr. Deveaux's power is. I'm still betting Mrs. Petrelli has a power as well. Possibly Hiro's father also but I would figure him to show his son already.
To live or not to live Matt? Hmm, I'm going with live. We have more to see involving his family and his child as precursored by the 5 years ahead episode.
Do you think the big badder dude worse then the boogey man guy is going to be the one to kill Sylar or team up with him?
I hope Niki's persona's aren't totaly morphed into one. It gave that family a good storyline.
August 24th is the DVD's right? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh I can't wait!
Man what a great episode...i was disappointed because i wanted to see more of a climactic battle between Peter and Sylar, but it was still an awesome episode...can't wait for the DVD's in August, and for Volume 2 to start
By the way can anyone elaborate on the cockroach reference at the end of the show, when Sylar supposedly crawled in the sewer?
I have been SO into this show but the last episode was a disappointment, riddled with narrative inconsistances. A whole season building to a climactic battle between good and evil embodied in Peter and Sylar. Two SUPER superheroes that have dozens, if not tens of dozens of powers between them and instead, peter punches sylar 3 times, thug-style. If I'd wanted Sopranos, I'd have watched Sopranos. And then Hiro appears and runs 10 feet towards a man that can stop speeding bullets and manages to stab him? Come on! You spent a year developing fantastic SUPERpowered Characters! USE THEM!!! Kring and Co were geniuses in creating a storyline of literally limitless possibilities and then squndered it by utilizing NONE of them.
I'll watch next season but I hope they can redeem what up till a few minutes ago was a REALLY good show.
This was a great episode, but again, I was disappointed with the lack of Sylar vs Peter. I really want to watch them fight and I was bummed at how little the fighting amounted to. Punching each other, WTF!
Anyway, I was never a fan of Nathan's so I'm glad he finally redeemed himself here. I have to say, watching Hiro stab Sylar was pretty awesome!!
I'm dying to see who this person scarier than the boogeyman is for Molly. Someone on the IMDB messageboard mused that it was the Haitian, but I don't think so.
what was with the peter/sylar thing! i was just waiting for their powers to start feeding off each other. peter absorbing sylars powers and using them without realizing it and creating some sort of feedback loop and therefore completely KICKING SYLARS %$#
otherwise
great episode. cant wait til next season.
that being said i was disappointed with the fight between peter and sylar but then again if i was gonna get revenge on sylar for killing me i would have gone up side his face too. Secondly am i the only one who saw how to stop peter without nathan ying? Claire could have shot peter, stopping him from exploding and then he could of just regenerated. I dunno maybe the writers just hate nathan.

It don't think it would be that simple. When Ted was shot, though it wasn't a killing blow, he burned down the Bennet house and gave Claire a face lift. Peter could react like that if shot with Ted's power front and center.

Yeah, it looks like the overall opinion so far is that viewers wouldn've preferred more of an apocalyptic-type battle between Sylar & Peter. I did find myself 'whoo-hoo"ing when Hiro sliced into Sylar. Is he not the most awesome little Samurai?
I think the writers did an awesome job with the cockroach reference & the blood trailing to the sewer. But yeah, why didn't anyone notice this? You'd think our "Heroes" would've gathered round and thrown him into a funeral pyre or something and with all the weirdness, would've wanted to be 110% sure this dude was dead?!?!? Guess we'll have to wait until next season. Meanwhile, we can pontificate and ponder!
wtf was going on with Charles Deveaux and Peter in that dream-like scene.
Is Sylar still alive, and how did no one see him going down the sewer?
Why do they continue to associate Madagascar Hissing Cockraoches with Sylar, when clearly they could not survive in NY, maybe in TX, but not in NY.
Why was Mrs. Peterilli keeping Claire and Nathan apart?
How was DL able to make such a fantastic recovery from a bullet to the gut at the end of the show?
Who is worse than the boogieman? Maybe, boogiemen??
Did Nathan survive after flying Peter up, up and away? And why couldn't Pete get his own butt flying?
: :
Well Peter either used Deveaux's power to travel back in time in a dream, or maybe Deveaux used his power to go to the future and get peter to dream of that moment in the past. Or maybe Deveaux planted "copies" of the events durring that tine in Peters brain so that he could later communicate to him in a dream. There are lots of fun possibilities to choose from.
He is obviously still alive, why bother with the sewer otherwise or risk hurting the ratings by getting rid of him., he could easily have crawled/floated(like in sneaking up on the hearing lady) to the sewer he opened with telekenisis, while everyone else was distracted worying about the wounded and the fate of the petreli brothers. Besides people don't normally watch "dead" people very closely and sylar has made several sudden appearances from nowhere and disappearance throughout the series, for instance at the start of his fight with peter, so it may even be a power he stole.
...don't care...
Claire would have been a political liability for Nathon.
Maybe he let the bullet phase out of him for starters, and anyways who says he's made a fantastic recovery he continues looking like he hurts a lot and only gets around because his super-strong wife is carrying him.
well my guess is that if it is not someone new it will be the haitian as he makes powers not work right, and all the good things he did for Claire were only because he was on orders from Mrs. Petreli. Anyways the attribute of worse seems mostly given to him for the fact that he can *see*(scared voice) her and not anything else as; Sylar did murder her parents while she hid in hearing distance.
My bet is survival, as Peter would have gotten to hot to hold even with adrenal fueled determination causing nathan to have time to bolt after he drops him and realizes Peter will blow an instant later. On the other hand the heat might melt their skin together first requiring Hiro to return from 1671 in the nick of time to pry nathan off while accidentally scarring peter in the face before teleporting back to the ground. Peter didn't fly himself because he couldn't do anything, which I know because he said he couldn't do anything. I don't know if he can use two powers at once anyways. On second thought actually this show may actually be willing let Nathon die so as to properly end his character arc, since they have been willing to kill off some other important characters.

The offensive powers they have, before Nicci steps in are: telekonisis, cutting laser( better suited for executions, surgeries, and turture then fighting), really cold hands, and ted's nuclear power. Now keep in mind that Peter is trying to not use ted's power, he can't control Hiros's and there doesn't seem to be many objects around for him to toss around with his mind. It would have been nice to see them cause a bunch of carnage throwing objects and each other around. However it wouldn't have made as much sense. Sylar is trying to strangle and beat Peter to the point where Peter would be too winded and dazed (and occupied with using the amount of telekonisis he can manage under those circumstances to counteract the strangle hold) to fight him off while he tried to get his head open before it could heal. I for one am glad they designed this fight like the two's previous fights by thinking about things that might realistically be done to win instead of by what might look cool(Hey magneto you throw cars towards them and I'll catch them on fire while their in the air)
and to whoever said Hiro couldn't have gotten to sylar running the short distance to stab him. First off, sylar didn't expect him to actually have the nerve to kill him. Secondly he runs him through before sylar has enough time to so much as flinch away. I assumed, possibly because of the ticking clock background noise that he slowed time as he lunged at him(since concentrating enough to stop would give sylar time to do something. I suppose they could have made it more obvious by cutting momentarily to a slow-mo expression of surprise/fear comes on to sylars face or his hand begins to
Well I have to agree with most of the comments here that I was disappointed on several facets of the finale.
1. The epic showdown between Sylar & Peter wasn't so epic - kinda lame actually. The writes had a chance to really "wow" it's audience and they failed.
2. Sylar can be choking Peter and stopping Matt's bullets but can't stop Hiro charing from 10" away with his sword? WTF...
3. The previous comments by the cast stated that allot of questions would be answered - I don't think they came through. What happened to Candace? Is she dead? Is N/J one now? Who is worse than the boogieman? What was Angela Petrelli's power? What was Daveux's power? Too many open threads left...
There were some good scenes. The fact that Hiro did save Ando was cool - I thought Ando was a goner. Nathan coming through at the end for Peter...
The show could have been so much more but guess we'll have to take for it was it is. Guess I'm looking forward to next season...
