Isaac's loft
Hiro and Ando enter Isaac's loft and find F-Hiro and his string timelines. They announce that the cheerleader was saved. "Then you killed Sylar?" F-Hiro asks. F-Hiro explains that Hiro slashes Sylar to kill him, but he had regenerated. Hiro is confused. Matt Parkman breaks in with homeland security forces and seizes Hiro. Ando and F-Hiro escape. F-Hiro's powers are blocked by the Haitain. They need to find Peter Petrelli for help.

Las Vegas strip club
Jessica is announced as the main star and comes out on the center stage. F-Hiro and Ando are there to get a message to Peter, her boyfriend. She states that the war is over--and they lost. They leave and Peter appears, wondering what F-Hiro wanted. He is still after Sylar. Peter has the scar, Niki has lost Micah and is trying to get over it. The TV shows "America Remebers" and shows a close up of Sylar.
Homeland Security Offices
Matt is questioning Hiro, who honestly knows nothing. Matt accuses him of killing many men. Matt reports to Nathanabout capturing Hiro, but he knows nothing. Nathan advises him to rip/beat the information out of Hiro.
Oval Office
Nathan, (president), summons Mohinder and states that they allowed a man to blow up NYC and they are no closer to a cure than when they first began. A boy sucked all the oxygen out of his middle school and killed hundreds. We can't have another Sylar. Nathan suggests extinction of the metas. If he gives Mohinder more time, Mohinder will still not find a cure.

Matt is beating Hiro for information on what he is planning for the 5th anniversary, but gets nothing.
Isaac's loft
Mohinder is inspecting all of the strings created by F-Hiro.
Midland, TX
HRG and Hana are helping a meta family create new identities and hide from Homeland Security. F-Hiro and Ando find them and state that they are looking for DL, Candace and Molly, the ones that Hiro brought to HRG. F-Hiro tells HRG that Claire is alive, he saved her, please help.
Isaac's loft
Mohinder realizes that every string represents an individual and their timeline. Matt enters and Mohinder tells him that Hiro can bend time and space. Mohinder recalls the subway visit from F-Hiro and Save The Cheerleader, Save The World, STC, STW.
Burnt Toast Diner
Brunette Claire is a waitress and is engaged to Andy, who appears to be the cook there. HRG is in her section and tells her that someone knows she is alive. She needs to leave ASAP. She states that she is getting married, but realizes that she must do what HRG says. The TV in the diner shows the capture of a meta by Homeland Security.
F-Hiro's hotel room
F-Hiro and Ando plan their assault. Ando asks where he is in the future. F-Hiro skirts the question with a line about disturbing the space-time continuim. Matt breaks in and tazers F-Hiro. Peter follows and freezes time, takes F-Hiro and Ando, and exits the scene.

F-Hiro's hotel room
HRG appears with Matt. He confirms their deal that he hands over dangerous metas and hides the non-dangerous ones. HRG has a drawing from Matt's son, it appears he is hiding Janice and the boy. Hana has been shot in the forehead. Matt attacks and levels his gun at HRG demanding info on Peter/F-Hiro, but settles for info on Claire.

Claire asks Andy to elope. He is in love and willingly agrees to whatever she wants. Claire serves coffee and behind the last menu is Parkman. We are led to believe he captures Claire.
Homeland Security Offices
Mohoinder is questioning Hiro. He wants to know the meaning of STC, STW.
Vegas strip club
F-Hiro is unconscious. Peter tells Ando that he died in the explosion. Hiro changed when Hiro died and all the joy and happiness left him. He has been working all these years to bring Ando back. Niki arrives.
Isaac's loft
Mohinder tells Nathan that Hiro can bend time and space, He can change the future by killing Sylar. Nathan states that he will announce that there is a cure for the metas, even though it is untrue. The subjects will die, but the world will unbite in their mourning. Nathan asks if Mohinder is with him? Mohinder responds, "Of Course". Matt enters and says that there are 2 Hiros. Nathan orders Mohinder to kill the Hiro that has been captured.
Petrelli home
Nathan tells Claire that he thought she was dead. Nathan says that he is the president of the free world and the most special person in the world. He thanks Candace for allowing him to become president and reveals himself to be SYLAR. He then begins his skull cut on Claire's head.

Vegas strip club
F-Hiro awakes. Ando tells him' "You became everything that you wanted, I just became dead." F-Hiro realizes that Peter told Ando about his death. Peter tells Niki that she has lost Jessica, DL, and Micah, but to pull herself together. Peter is leaving on a mission with F-Hiro. He has to fix things because Peter was the one who caused the explsion, not Sylar. Nathan lied to protect him. Niki says if he leaves not to bother coming back. Peter leaves anyway.
NYC-outdoor speech by Nathan
We have had 5 years of Sorrow. There are several flashes back to the speech which eventually leads to the announcement of a cure for the metas.
Mohinder prepares to give Hiro a lethal injection,
Niki throws a glass at a TV showing Nathan giving his speech.
Ando, F-Hiro, and Peter teleport to Homeland Security Offices and decimate dozens of guards. They are trying to free Hiro.
The Haitian is with Mohinder watching the impending execution.

Homeland Security Offices
Matt is waiting with an assault team at the elevator. They are close enough to the Haitian that Peter and F-Hiro cannot use their powers. The elevator opoens....but it is empty.
Mohinder has the hypodermic in his hand and at the last minute injects the Haitian in the back of the neck (per the 9th Wonders comic book), instead of Hiro. The Haitian begins to collapse. mohinder releases Hiro. Peter, Ando and F-Hiro arrive. Hiro advises that Mohinder is a friend. They tell Hiro he must teleport away, but he says that he cannot control his power yet. F-Hiro says he will take them, just then the door bursts open and Matt pumps hot lead into F-Hiro. Peter TKs the door shut with Matt and his force outside.
Matt radios to Nathan that Hiro is escaping and Peter is holding them off. He needs reinforcements. Nathan flies away from his speech. He arrives and phases Peter through the door. Peter states that Nathan can't phase. Nathan reveals himself as Sylar and they begins a massive radiation battle. Hiro and Ando teleport back in time.
NYC- Deveaux Building roof
Hiro and Ando are back and the city is intact. Hiro sees in the 9th Wonders comic book that he must kill Sylar with his katana.

Here's a couple things i took away from this episode and a couple questions.
So now Hiro is hunting down Sylar to stop the bomb, but we know that Peter is actually the bomb..... so if Hiro continues down this path, the bomb should go off and the future will not change.
Matt has a son who has abilities.
Niki wins out over Jessica, but if the future changes, will it be the other way around?
Sylar appears to have killed DL, among others including Candace and Nathan.
The comic ended up back in Issac's loft in the hands of Hiro.

Good job on the summary. My tv station cut me off on the last 6 minutes of the episode to warn us of the impending thunderstorm; hate it when they do that.
I also noticed them mention Molly Parker; the girl whose parents got killed by Sylar and saved by Matt and Audrey. I wonder what her power is; matter manipulation or reality warping would be cool to see.
I also noticed that Sylar mentioned killing Candice; the shapeshifter that works for Primatech. Anyone notice they went 180 on her power and seemed to have changed her from an illusion caster to a shapeshifter; maybe I'm wrong.
Thanks all--there were many scene changes, but I think I recorded them all.

I re-watched the episode with close captioning on just now (had to watch "24" first). I use close captioning because some times I miss stuff. When Parkman has the gun pointed at HRG's head, when the scene cuts away, supposedly there is the sound of a "gunshot", because the close captioning system says: "gunshot". So Parkman kills HRG.
Awesome episode over all. I am still a bit confused as to whether it's Sylar that explodes in Loop 1 and Peter in Loop 2, etc.
Didn't F. Hiro tell Ando and Hiro that he killed Sylar after he eploded? Meaning after he blew-up NYC? Maybe I need to watch a 3rd time.....
There seems to be some confusion as to the actual title of this episode. Most TV guides, including my TiVo think it is called: "String Theory", just like the NBC website, as of late Monday night.
However, the title that was shown on the episode itself at the beginning was:
"Five Years Gone".
ok everyone, i just clicked the "discuss recene eps!" buttone, then "reply!" without reading ANYTHING....because....im waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too indepth in thinking mode rightnow... i willread EVVVVERRRYONES posts on this eps, theories (hopefully,...i kindda like popkorn, slippy, hercule, etc..) but anyways.. im just WAAAAY to into watching over and over and ..
for now im wondering (even though i saw the graphic novel) if future hiro actualy saw sylar be the bomb, or if he just assumed it (ala what we see in this eps)
grrrrrrrr thats all for now...im afraid future hiro is more hellbent on killing sylar than stopping the bomb (assuming its sylar as his agenda thus causing the war-ish rebellion himself, MY NEW THEORY POKORN HA!)
(oh btw, i meant he's more on the revenge scale...."thinking" sylar is the bomb, he has SUPER motive to start a war, and still thinking of his friend as a sort of "remember the alamo!" in his mind...")

I agree with Wem (on another thread) that Parkman had to know Sylar had replaced Nathan, and was helping Sylar cherry-pick the "dangerous" powers.
I'm curious how long ago Sylar replaced Nathan. Peter said that Nathan had lied to protect him (about who was responsible for the explosion), and I think that was the real Nathan. Sylar probably would have taken the opportunity to get Peter out of the way.
Also, there's Candice. Hiro and HRG seemed to think she and DL were alive (although Niki seemed to think DL was dead), but Sylar had their powers. It seems too much of a pain in the butt for Sylar to impersonate Candice and DL to fool HRG, but if he didn't, that means Candice went through the program to round up specials before Sylar got to her, which means it's not possible that Sylar was impersonating Nathan when it was set up, which means Nathan set up the program to round up specials.
Peter+Niki is not quite as creepy as Peter+Jessica. Still no explanation about the scar.
It looks like you have to scrunch up your face to stop time. Still one of my favorite scenes. Even better: future Hiro, Peter, and Ando going to rescue present Hiro, and pretty much everything forward of that. Very happy that they went with the mysteriously bloodless sword wounds, though.
Peter vs. Sylar: my money's on Peter, after the building (or the city?) is levelled. It could go on for days, or until one of them drops from exhaustion.
Hmm, this was quite an interesting episode and should make for fun discussion on the podcast. ^_^ Can't wait to see the graphic novel.

Matt then turned them over to Nathan/Sylar who had lunch.
And the big question is...if Hiro kills Sylar, would Peter still go nuclear? Or did he go nuclear because of Sylar?
Also, was Sylar really the bomb in the 1st timeline? Hiro thinks he is, but everyone thinks it's Sylar on the 2nd run through, too, but it was Peter. Or has Peter always been and will always be the bomb?

Sylar could not have been impersonating Nathan at this point, because he didn't have Candice' power yet. Either Sylar got to Candice before HRG hid her, or it was Nathan who started rounding up specials.

It does suggest that, it sounds like he has been pretending to be Nathan for a long time, and everybody (including Matt) thinks the he is Nathan. I'd say that it's highly likely that Sylar killed Candice a long time ago, since her power is one of the most useful ones to him. It's allowed him to reamain in "hiding" for years by the looks of it. He's an extremely sneaky guy, and now he has Claire's power! Not good. It's hard to say who would win out of their fight, they both have the same powers, really. Anything that Sylar uses, Peter can use.
As for the present, if Hiro kills Sylar (somehow), he won't stop the bomb! Something needs to change, he needs to find out that Peter was the one who exploded, and then do something about it. If he doesn't, then Sylar wins. In my opinion, he shoud go back in time and stop Peter from meeting Ted (or hasn't he met him yet in the present?). Anyway, if you stopped Peter from getting Ted's power, you would save the world. Unless Ted exploded anyway, even after you did that that is.
It should be interesting to see what happens, anyway.
We still don't know the sequence of events that causes Peter to actually explode. It's possible that by stopping and killing Sylar that Peter wouldn't explode. Perhaps Sylar injures Peter which causes him to go Nuclear...though, don't know how Sylar would have survived that. Regardless, we don't know what happens to make Peter go up in a mushroom cloud.
But, I agree, it's possible that even stopping Sylar may not be enough. But, with Sylar not killing Nathan and taking over his role as president, perhaps the future won't be quite as dark.
On a side note, we now have proof that both Sylar and Peter can use two powers at one time.
Sylar: He was using Candice's shapeshifting/illusion ability and flew at the same time.
Peter: He was invisible and used TK to bring the glass towards him in the bar.
