Okay this has been something that has been getting on my nerves okay lets look at the facts peter did paint the future without isaac but it was stick figures remember and he doesnt paint the future any other time and when he did it the first time it was not to long after he visited AND Peter was talking to Ando in the 6 months ago episoe and he said that without another hero he was pretty much useless too plus in the very same episode claire is near him when he falls BUT he heals a little after she leaves BUT he is still bleeding on his hed IE he doesnt KEEP her powers but mimics a little longer after she leaves but he is still injured now if it were his ability like it was Claires then dont you thenk that cut on his face would have healled first yes i do realize it did heal when he was in the police station but it wasnt fast like when claire odes it now granted maybe later on he learns to contain the mimicked powers for a little longer and they will be stronger when he uses them but i still dont think he holds them Forever sry if you still dont believe me its your loss
One quick edit... Peter and Ando talk in 'Homecoming'.
Also, bear in mind that when Peter was trying to fly by jumping off of the monkey-bars at the playground, he clearly could not. I know he talks about his foot hovering for a split second when he gets out of bed, but I chalked that up to being a figment of his imagination or some lingering effect of being near Nathan.
It's not that Peter won't be able to retain abilities in the future, it's that he can't RIGHT NOW.
i agree that he cant hold em forever but as he grows stronger he'll be able to keep em longer and possibly controll whether he wants to absorb em or not and possible sense when he's near someone with powers. which would make sense if he were able to controll whether he wants to absorm em or not
yah but would think @ somepoint he'll be able to tell if he's abosrbing a power or not. unless he'll always be like opps theres a new power sorry i fried you with my heat vision or something like that
I am wondering if the Original Super retains abilitly to use the power while peter is mimicing it? Nathan said he lost control when he caught peter.......
SEATTLEFAN, good point there. PFUNK i like hte idea of him gaining ability to choose too, time will tell wish it moved faster though.

Yes, but remember that Pete, and Matt were reading each others minds, so that thoery is out.
I think he retains the power he absorbs within a certain amount of time...it shows at the scene in homecoming...after falling of the ledge with Sylar, he was able to fix himself when Claire came to him...and after Claire left, the police came...Peter still had a broken left foot, which he fixed when he heard the sirens....but Claire was gone for minutes by then.

I'm not even going to tell you what's been getting on my nerves!
There seems to be a lot of heat around this aspect of Peter's powers, so maybe it deserves a separate topic.
I assume that Mo-hinder-u's argument is supposed to disprove that Peter can retain powers indefinitely, since a poll doesn't really do that kind of thing. For example, a poll taken long enough ago could indicate that the vast majority of people believed that the Earth was the center of the universe and everything else went around it.
I think that some people who have been saying that Peter can retain powers indefinitely mean that he has that potential, not necessarily that he can do that now. They might answer the poll either way.
To me, it looks like Peter copies powers while he is with another person and retains them for a while after they part. The powers gradually get weaker until they're gone.
It makes a lot of sense to me that Peter might get more control later - that he might be able to know when he has copied a power and how it works (to avoid the "oops sorry I fried you with my new heat vision" someone mentioned), choose whether/which to copy, or retain them longer. But I don't think I've seen anything on the TV show that indicates this yet.

Well I wanted to creat a new thread for this, but since I'm new, I can't. This was the thread closest to what I wanted to post, so here it is. Sorry if you think it's too far off topic.
Suffering the same crippling headaches as Matt, Peter experiences a vision that posits him back in a deserted New York City with the rest of the Heroes. He begins to glow from within, and flames shoot forth from his pores. from http://blog.meevee.com/my_weblog/2006/12/t...akked.html#more
Now I've only seen the episode once, so maybe other people noticed more than myself, but so far these are a couple thoughts that I've come across.
1. Peter absorbs the power of the radioactive power, but can't control it.
2. Peter absorbs too many powers and kind of over charges, exploding as a result.
3. Some people are saying that they think he may be linked to Syler somehow, that leading to his explosion.
So what does everyone think. I think I'm more partial to the radioactive guy theory, but then again, he wasn't anywhere in the vision. Hmmmmm.......I guess I don't know.
It's not that Peter won't be able to retain abilities in the future, it's that he can't RIGHT NOW.
Exactly. Who's to say he won't be able to retain powers longer when he gets better control over his power? I think this is the point of giving him a mentor.
OK this is just me talking but so far Peter has taken others abilities by osmosis without even trying. I think if he actively sought out the power he could hold it longer but not forever.
Or if he actively sought it he could drain it from the original wielder, and that is why he is going to explode he drains Radioactive Dude but then doesn't know what to do with the waste.
These are just the conjectures of a madman and should be interpreted with that in mind

I have as of recently heard abou this inviisible man to be his mentor and that would make alot of sense and I first posted this i said and i quote
Quote:
now granted maybe later on he learns to contain the mimicked powers for a little longer and they will be stronger when he uses them but i still dont think he holds them Forever
i mean i know he holds them temporarily but there was alot of talk about him gaining that power permanently which in my opinion isnt true
I guessing he will be able to get stronger after awhile and his range of power will increase I doubt he will ever be able to Keep the powers forever like Sylar
