Where we get Linda Tavara's story from a young age and how she came into her power.
Facts: She is a power absorber. But what kind?
Facts: She can see auras around all living things, humans or animals.
Facts: She thirsts for that light that the aura displays, some auras brighter, some dimmer.
Linda Tavara has this power from a very young age, and her parents are even afraid of her. She spends most of her time in her bedroom, hidden away taking the life of small animals. She dreams of the light of other people (their auras).
Then one night as she walks the streets and encounters lots of different people, some with bright auras like beacons, others with feeble auras, since they are near death, she comes across this elderly woman on the patio of a retirement village who is brightly lit (her aura that is). Does this woman, Ida Walker, have some ability? Because she is telling her friend who she is playing a board game with her, that she sees "Angels" and that SHE, her friend is jealous of her because she can't see them herself!
Linda decides she wants that aura, she wants that woman's (Ida Walker) life energy. She lies and gets a visitor pass. She gets Ida to think she has a phone call and takes her to her room, where Ida realizes that things are not as they seem.
Linda lies and says that she is an Angel come for her and then takes her life energy. In the process, does she also take Ida's ability to see "angels"? It would appear that way, since, as Linda Tavara is seen walking out of the retirement home she can now see "ghosts", what Ida was calling "Angels".
So, it would appear that Linda Tavara is a power absorber (ability absorber) AND a life absorber.
She got to know one of Molly Walker's relatives well, maybe too well.
So, I guess, that's how Molly's power works? She uses people energy field, aka their auras!?!?!
Now, we're learning stuff.... It's a shame they couldn't reveal this kind of stuff during the show, and we have to wait for new episodes until September.
Very interesting novel. I agree that Linda is a power absorber, and that Ida May is probably Molly's grandmother. However, I don't think we can compare Molly's power to Ida May's. When Linda absorbed Ida May's "aura", she absorbed Ida May's ability too:
Linda Tavera said, "Now I can see Ida's angels as well," which IMO is a direct reference to Ida May's ability.
I think Ida May could see spirits, and maybe even communicate with them.
I don't think Ida May had the same ability as Molly, nor do their abilities work in the same manner. If Ida May DID have clairvoyance like Molly, then Linda would have absorbed it, and furthermore wouldn't have had trouble locating Jason in the previous novel (which occurs after this GN in the timeline of events).
BUT I do have a good link between Ida May's ability and Molly's ability:
Ida May could "see" dead people
Molly can "see" living people
No, PK that's what I was suggesting -- I wasn't saying they have (had) the same power -- I was suggesting, that their power works the same way, by noticing OR identifying electrical fields ("auras" if you will) of people, whether DEAD or ALIVE.
Molly's power is just a different VERSION / WORKS differently than Ida's.... That's how I saw it.
If this 'aura' thing runs through the family, what could James Walker's ability have been? I'm thinking it wasn't a physical ability, but more of a mental one like Ida and Molly's... hmmm...
I don't recall seeing James Walker's ability or name when the old list was out..
But then again, I don't have the penchant or flair for some of the background data gathering like some folks on this board, either (ahem, AF ahem!)
Anyway, I'll leave it in more capable hands to find out, and just smile and nod with my "Ah yes!" type of attitude that I usually adopt at times like these...
Linda Tavara seems to be another recurring theme here.. Could there have been something in the "Vault" that represented her or her ability?
Yeah, James Walker's ability was definitely not mentioned or written anywhere - it's still one of those "When are we going to find out?!" things. For some reason though, I do recall his name being on some list - maybe it was the one that Mohinder unlocked on Chandra's computer, but I'm not positive. Or maybe I'm just imagining that, lol.
As for the vault (no relation to .Vault) I don't think it will be revisited in the series, but that's just my opinion. If anything, I could see them showing us the contents of the vault in a Graphic Novel (which would be really cool, *AHEM* WRITERS *COUGH*).
As for Linda Tavera's ability, I think the writers are just trying to introduce a new power-absorbing technique, since empathic mimcry and intuitive aptitude are already taken.
Although, sorry HERC, Molly's ability has nothing to do with auras.
James Walker's ability is an unknown, at one time thought to have something to do with ice because he was frozen. But then, we don't know if this is something Sylar got from him or used on him.
These are my thoughts and I'm sticking to them...
Also...
Is it just me, or are the GN's really starting to focus on characters that will not be in the show in order to release information and tell interesting stories? Most of the recent characters introduced in the GN's are killed off.
I'm also sensing that the Linda stories are a way to prepare us for other characters (in the show) capable of gaining multiple powers. I'm not sure if I like that though. There's also the question as to what these characters could get from each other if they crossed paths. Would they get the whole inventory, or just the base power? Peter obviously gets everything from Sylar because Sylar now HAS those powers. In my opinion, Sylar would only be able to get Peter's base ability.
Anyhow, I will now return to read but not post mode until I see something else that peeks me.
First of, Sylar HAD the freezing ability when he froze James Walker. We discussed this long time ago, and I believe there is evidence to support this claim. I think Action Hero posted it in some thread, but I can't remember where.
As for Molly, you're 100% WRONG!
Here's why:
-- This GN showed us that all people have auras.
-- Basically, what an aura is, is the body's own electrical field. I am not saying that. Eastern religions have said that for thousands of years, and science has recently confirmed the claim. GO TO WIKIPEDIA if you disagree:
-- So, if each body generates a UNIQUE electrical field, which for purposes of this argument we will call an "aura", then, that's a person's psychic OR paranormal signature.
-- So, finally, if we are to accept "auras" and we're to accept people with powers like Molly's what a better way for Molly to identify the person? She focuses on the person, "She thinks about them" as she has said in the past, AND THEN she locates their psychic signature -- THEIR AURA.
So, you see MADSTRACT, YOU ARE THE ONE who is wrong.
IF you have a better argument, please lay it on me....... Otherwise, please don't wake me up again.
Just messing with you man! You're ok, but you know, I am right....!
While James Walker isn't the topic of this thread, I'd just like to put to rest the fact that there is no confirmation for or against the fact that he had cryokinesis. It has indeed been discussed at length (probably everywhere on the forum, lol), but still nothing from the writers, and I don't think we'll ever find out... unless directly from Molly's mouth.
As for Molly and auras, I'm not very sure what to think, but as Herc said it has been confirmed that each person has an aura. Thus, if someone in Molly's lineage possess the ability to physically ee the aura of dead people, then Molly might be able to mentally see the aura of living people, which could be the tool she uses to locate them. If that's the case, then I'd also like to point out that Linda can also see auras, as stated in the novel, which is very, very interesting when comparing it to Ida May and Molly's abilities... the three girls are more similar than we think...

That's definitely what I think, Mad... goes along with the Popkorny theory that introducing Linda in the GN's is a way of
introducing the ability that
Knox will be wielding in Season 3 . If that turns out to be the case, and Knox turns out to be a lifeforce and ability absorber, it would why the writers said that Knox's ability is like everyone's ability put together.

Well, April 22 and July should be nice. Is it ok to say why in this thread without a backlash?
Go for it! I've been so swamed with my final project recently that I haven't had time to keep up with news. Just hide the info with the "hide" button when you post it
Actually, Molly's relatives don't see the auras, it's Linda Tavara, who is NO relation.
She's just the one who absorbs Molly's Grandmother's ability.
The grandma's ability was to be able to see "angels", whether those angels were ghosts or spirits is still undefined, but it wasn't seeing auras.
Now Linda, she could see the aura, and grandma's aura was a bright gold color, even at her advanced age. I'd say that's how Linda was able to see who had an ability, and who didn't. Thus one of the reasons she was so picky about who she "kept" and who she let go.
Remember in the previous GN? "Two for them, one for me".. Basically she was being more discreet about who she was taking, so even though it was more specialized, she had to be discreet, and choosy.
I'm curious. Regular folks gave off different auras. Some bright, some dim. Specials gave off auras as well, but are some much brighter than others? If so, can she differentiate between the two? That might explain some of her willingness to take a bartender for no real apparent reason.. Get what I'm saying?
