|
|
Wow, u guys are really great theorists. Reading all the time travel theories, puts my pathetic physics knowledge to shame. So, I decided to sign up for an account and take in as much as I can from u guys!
I decided that my first topic should be light and casual, especially with all the elaborate threads discussing about plot holes etc., every casual Heroes fan needs a break from all the theories as well! =)
So, as per topic...
Best character progression:
Sylar - Instead of just being the same old uber villain image he portrays in S1, his character is gradually humanized in S3. His hunger for power is explicitly mentioned time and time again, to emphasize the fact that he's not the brutal murderer that people perceive that he is.
Also, he subtly displays the human need for family, because he's rather docile towards Angela, who revealed that she's his birth mum. Ep 4 portrays him as a loving dad, and any fan would be excited to discover what happened within the 3-4 years which made him change so drastically!
Worst character progression:
Niki/Tracy/Babara - On surface, it seems that they're identical triplets as claimed by the doctor, but I think it reeks of cloning, since he said "I created u". But I may be wrong, since the doctor might be referring to his DNA manipulation of the sisters.
Still, I think that it's a cheap way to get Ali Larter back into the series without needing to fumble with the details of Niki's death. So basically now, she can keep dying, and yet come back every season as a different person. When Tracy and Barbara die, they would start to say that they were fine specimens to clone, and we'll get a clone army of Ali Larters. -_-"
Overall, poor character(s) progression. Unless she gets really involved in Nathan's politics stint, to the point where she's pivotal in Nathan's success, determining whether he has the chance to become President.
Honourable mention: Maya (Mohinder's love puppy without a concrete purpose or reason for her existence in the series besides being so adamant on wanting a cure? Oh please...)
Best story progression:
The idea of multiple central themes: The African guy has been painting about Matt's life since young, leading us to believe that Matt has a crucial role to play in the upcoming events, and his actions will determine the fate of the world.
On the other hand, Sylar notes that Claire is special and different from the rest. In the future, Knox commented that he could die but Claire can't afford to. Could she possibly be the key to all the problems associated with these special abilities?
How about Peter? Future Peter says that he's the only one who can change the tragic events which are to follow. What part would Hiro and Adam play in all these? And about the "Light" which Kaito mentioned?
Simply put, I like this idea that any hero, at this point of time, has the possibility of stepping up to the game and become the focal point for his/her heroic crusade.
Worst story progression:
Future Peter messing around with time: It's no secret that alot of intellectual peeps here are pissed at this story arc and abuse of time travel. For good reason as well. Besides the old time travel plot holes of previous seasons such as Caitlin trapped in an alternate timeline, the writers decided to add in more loopholes.
Everyone's been arguing that Future Peter is setting up too many paradoxes, such as his shooting of Nathan will prevent the future witch hunt of heroes, in turn, altering his eventual memories and initial intentions to even want to go back in the first place to kill Nathan.
IMO, the witchhunt or something similar still occurs due to the universal nature of cause-effect, preserving F.Peter's intentions to travel back in time to kill Nathan. Despite all the criticism u guys have of the writers, I think they still understand what they're doing, but they're pushing the boundaries of tethering on the edge of opening a paradox but never tripping into it.
Which I still don't really agree with. They should keep it free from ambiguity, otherwise we'll be torturing our brains here in the forums, trying to justify all these loopholes. >.<

Best character progression:
Gabriel, hands down.
Worst character progression:
I would say Nathan, with an honorable mention to Tracy/Barbara/Nikki/Jessica/Tina/Susan/Ginger/MaryAnne. Oh, and Maya. She's really pretty, but she's really pretty useless.
Best story progression:
I'm gonna be a loner here I think, but I'll say Moh. I don't think there's anyone (of which didn't see hundreds of flying civilian spoilers) that saw powers being given to normals. And it would be SICK if Moh really does turn into a cockroach.
Worst story progression:
It's gonna be pretty unanimous that the constant time travel paradoxes are messing things up right now. We can only hope that this gets addressed elegantly.
I'll also add that the whole Nathan story arc is bothering me in general. The born-again religious angle (dude, it was Linderman, not god). Linderman being invisible/dead/Obi-wan. The gawd-awful saving Tracy from death scene.
The only two times I've said "Really dude? C'mon!" in the entire series was that scene and the West flying Claire away on a date scene. I mean dude, c'mon!

Wait until you read my little physics lesson in the "Stick a fork in it" thread.
hehehe

Not "Can't afford to." Just "Can't." Knox was worried about his own hide...and with good reason apparently.
As a newcomer here myself, I hope we stick around for a little bit. It looks like the ranks are getting a little thin. Maybe this'll be a n00b only thread!! |

I have to disagree with Sylar being the best. Especially the humanizing bit. They forever ruined him by giving him regen in my opinion. I dont want Sylar to be human. i want him to be an animal. I do like when they make him weak though, but I think a much better story than "good Sylar" would be Sylar leading a double life. hes got a son, and hes got the hunger. His son is special, and to keep himself from killing his son, who is a ironically a regenerator, he has to keep going out at night and feeding on others.
Yes, thats right. I just came up with the most awesome storyline ever. |

Oh man, my physics sucks. I'm reckon I'd embarrass myself sooner or later. Haha. I had to take this physics module in university. Dreaded it so much, but u guys rekindled a slight interest in me, since general & special relativity are crucial theories in my course.
Moh's skin peeling thing is sickkk... I was snacking while watching Heroes, and when I saw that scene, I cringed and stopped putting food in my mouth before I got that image out of my mind. YUCK!
I doubt Sylar will be unambiguously good 4 years later. He'll be a conflicted dude who has to curb his hunger for his son. Who in the right frame of mind entered a romance with this crazed murderer and even bore him a son? Why is his son's name Noah?
All these nagging questions waiting to be answered lures us to watch each and every episode and that constitutes to being a candidate for the best, if not at least good, character progression.
Though I agree giving him regeneration so early in S3 is a mistake. The humanization of his character is probably to justify his gain of regeneration. Imagine if he's still the mad killer he used to be, with regeneration, he'll kill all the heroes in no time, except perhaps Peter, Claire and Hiro (who else?). Then, there will not be any story anymore!
Nevertheless, I've got high hopes for Sylar's progression. |

Sylar, it's hard to beat that. But also HRG, the fact that they've pulled him back towards where he was early in season 1 is just right for him. You're there sort of going for him, but then at times he just does bad things, like he's trapped in a continuous lie having to it over and over again to keep getting out of the last one.
Also I think they're moving Claire in the right direction. Having her turn into something of a suicide bomber hunter that can't be hurt is a great way to use her ability. Just have to work really hard at convincing us that she'll turn out that way. Probably the death of HRG at the hands of a fugitive later down the track will do that.
Peter, please, keep him at the level where is a gentle soul but caught in a very evil situation. Would love to see him take out Arthur and Angela though, that'd be great. And for him to be in a situation where it's him verses about 10 specials in a massive smack down situation. |
