Majora's Mask, just because it was such a development on the other generic Zelda games (not saying that they're not good ). It was much darker, and more interesting I found.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was bloody awesome too. Not many people have played it though
I've played eternal darkness. I remember one time I was just running and it said "controller out of port" i was like wtf?! i ran to my 'cube and was messing with the cable when all of a sudden a monster appeared and killed my character. I was pissed. Game over screen. Moments later i was alive. it was an illusion. I loved that game!
But I'd have to say.......Resident Evil 4. Not since Ocarina of time have I wanted to play through a game so many times and get EVERYTHING.
Wow. I can't believe I somehow missed this thread!
I have three favorites right now that I'm playing.
FFXII, mainly because I'm just fixated on the Final Fantasy genre of games, and I love the changing styles each time it comes out. You never really know how you're going to be able to develop your character from game to game!
Dragon Quest VIII. Amazing game. I love the idea of playing an RPG where you have control of what you buy, what you create, and how it affects your gains in the game. Plus, I LOVE sidequests! I have been playing this game for over a year now, and I think I've found just about everything and everyone there is to find! Now, if I could only figure out why I'm so obsessed with it...
And finally: Rogue Galaxy. Yes, another RPG, and made by Level 5 once again. I like the ability to create the most fantastic items of the game from your inventory with rare itmes, so sue me! Plus, it's got a good storyline, and it keeps you on your toes!
Kudos to all the other games, as I've loved playing them as well
Oh, and to edit this before I post it, Halo 3 kicks some serious butt as well! You've gotta try it out.
Heck, if you want to go for nostalgia, I remember the ones from back when I was _really_ young, like "Seven Cities of Gold" for the Commodore 64, and let me think..
There was Pong for the Atari...
And a sad verson of Pac-Man.. I remember all the hype for that game, and how depressing it was once it finally came out..
Colecovision, and some of their games, like Breakout, and Virtual Racing..
Oh man... Right now, my absolute favorite game is Okami. It's amazing, go find it if you haven't played it yet (which you likely haven't, it didn't sell very well).
Otherwise, I'm also playing FFXII. I love Final Fantasy games, too, but this one's not one of my favorites, to be honest. I'm stuck on leveling before I take on the final 2 Clan marks, and find the last few Espers. Pleh. I hate leveling. My true favorite Final Fantasy games are IX and X.
The Kingdom Hearts are also some of my favorites, but I felt a little betrayed by KH2. They could have done more with it, IMHO.
By far, the absolute strangest of my favorite games has to be the Harvest Moon series. It's a farming sim.
I think that about covers my favorites. It's impossible for me to pick just one.
Okami was freaking amazing. And i have to give a thumbs up to ign.com for giving it game of the year when it came out.
KH2 was ok.....RIDICULOUSLY easy.....and what happened to the exploration from the first one? I felt like every 2 enemies i killed there was another cut scene.
for me it had to be doom... the original. it was a total mind blowing experience for me. the birth of adult FPS. blood and gore and a quality soundtrack
My professor says I have a short attention span, and I can't really be interested in something for a long time.
It sucks since I like playing games. I never finish 'em, never have. In fact, the only time I ever came close to finishing a game was with Warcraft III Reign of Chaos.
So I dunno what my favorite game is... although, I know which games left their marks on me...
Legend of Legaia on the Playstation was my first RPG. Awesome experience, great battle system, amazing story. One of the greats. Too bad no one remembers it.
Digimon World was a good one too. Real interactive, made me smile a lot.
Final Fantasy VIII began my love and appreciation for RPGs. It had such a great story, and was my first FF. Problem is though, I can't finish any game that I play, I get bored... my gaming life is hell, I tell ya...
Lastly, Doom had a major effect on me. I started playing when I was 5, and I was hooked on the FPS genre. Thank god for Doom. Haha...
I remember when there were quite a few anime-type RPG games for the Sega Genesis. "Dungeon Crawler" was one, "Kingdom Seeker" was another. "Sword of Vermillion" was a kind of cheesy one.. But they all seemed to try to re-live the anime style of animation well before the third Final Fantasy made it's debut for the NES!
Thoughts about RPG and Anime:
Is it just me, or is everyone now trying to make their characters more of an anime style to catch people's attention?
